Emily Blincoe
Personal background
Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin Texas, and now lives in Nashville Tennessee, although she is often travelling around the world taking pictures today. Blincoe hates school as a child and did not learn well in a traditional classroom environment. After finishing high school, she worked as a preschool teacher and then as a waitress in a cafe, where she worked for ten years and then quit to travel and take photos full time. Blincoe had no formal photography schooling. She learned how to use a film camera from her brother at age twenty-two and enjoyed it, but dropped the hobby after a few years.
Style
Emily Blincoe’s work involves vibrant colors and eye-catching patterns to interest her audience and create a playful sense of excitement in her photos. Blincoe creates simple, staged photographs of easily identifiable objects. Food, plants, and fabrics are used in meticulously organized still lifes and portraits that are calling and satisfying to viewers. She tells a story by highlighting unique details of objects and people found around her.
Philosophy
Emily Blincoe’s love of nature and eye for natural beauty are the major inspiration behind her photographs. Through her photos, Blincoe tries to share these aspects of natural beauty through intricate arrangements captured for visual pleasure. Through diverse subjects and photography styles, Blincoe tries to show beauty in all types of everyday objects and share this beauty with those who view her photographs. Emily Blincoe uses humor and puns in her photographs to show her personality and sense of humor, telling personal stories without meaning to be loud or offensive.
Influences
Emily Blincoe draws inspiration from the world around her, and for that reason the elements influencing her work are always changing. Blincoe had no formal art education, nor was she inspired to start photographing in the style of a specific artist. Instead, she began taking photograohs to document moments of ordinary beauty around her. Colors and light play an integral part in Blincoe's work, for example, her color-coordinating still lifes. She also draws inspiration from faces of people, as she believes that all faces are timelessly beautiful and worthy of documentation.
Compare and contrast
My photo and Emily Blincoe's pictures are obviously different. This image was pretty easy for me to recreate. I had to make sure for this image to arrange the fries almost the exact same as hers. Then I grabbed a ketchup packet because she had ketchup. This image was the easiest to recreate. I went to Mcdonald's and tried to get the same size as her then got home and recreated her image the closet I could to the original.

Compare and contrast
My photo and Emily Blincoe's pictures are obviously different. This is probably the hardest pictures I had to take. The reason for that is I had to make a white background and make sure that the picture almost looked the same, another hard thing was trying to figure out how she put string through pizza I couldn't find any so I had to imrovise and find another blue thing to make it look the same. I edited this image so I could try to make it look the same as hers. I used photopea to edit the image to make it look the same.

Compare and contrast
My photo and Emily Blincoe's pictures are obviously different. For this picture I focused on the details to get as close as I could to the original. For each sucker I made sure to look at hers so I can position it right so it could look the same. I tried my best to make the background color the same. I liked how mine was a different style but kept the same idea. Her image was better but my image looks pretty good compared to hers. I used photopea to edit the image to make it look the same. The hard part was finding the right color suckers and seeing if I could match it, I couldn't so I substituted it for blue instead of white.

Personal artist statement
I really enjoyed taking and creating these photos. I really struggled finding the right images for me to recreate because she had a lot of photos to chose from. I hope that my three images really encourage you to try to have fun with your photographs and not stress about it also you can make food into art. The first image (french fries) really makes you think like why did she decide to take a picture of that. The second image (pizza party) makes you think wow how did she get pizza on a string that's cool. The last image (suckers in a pattern)makes you think those look good I want some. All of these involve food and make you want to go get these items so you can eat and play with them. I also enjoyed it because after I was done I could eat all of the items I did that's why I selected all foods I like so I can eat them after.
